Hawaii – Bill Signed to Remove Corporate Election Spending Power

 In Blog, Updates

Governor Josh Green recently signed Senate Bill 2471 into law, which reaffirms that artificial persons created under state law does not possess the power to spend money or contribute anything of value to influence elections or ballot measures. The bill prevents covered entities, including but not limited to corporations, LLCs, LLPs, LPs, and nonprofit associations and corporations, from paying, spending, or contributing to the campaign finance landscape; this also prevents non-charitable donations. The bill is set to take effect in July 1, 2027; however, legal challenges are expected to occur before then.
