Alaska – Campaign Contribution Limits Reinstated After Ballot Measure Passes

Alaskan citizens, through Ballot Measure 1, have voted to reinstate campaign contribution limits after the U.S. Court of Appeals struck down the state’s previous contribution limits in 2021, declaring the state’s stringent limits as unconstitutional. Individuals may contribute up to $2,000 per candidate, $4,000 for governor-lieutenant governor candidates, and $5,000 to political parties, per year; groups besides political parties may contribute $4,000 per candidate , $8,000 for governor-lieutenant governor candidates, and $5,000 for political parties; the limits are effective January 1, 2027 with the potential opportunity to increase with inflation every 10 years beginning in 2031.
