NEW ALABAMA LAW EXEMPTS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WORK FROM STATE LOBBY LAWS

 In Updates

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey recently signed HB 317, which exempts economic development professionals from registering as a lobbyist in limited circumstances.

Under the bill, an economic development professional is narrowly defined as a person employed to advance a specific economic development project on behalf of the person’s employer.  However, any person who otherwise meets the definition of lobbyist would still be required to register as such.

This bill is effective immediately.
