California Adopts New Rules Including Minimum Age Requirement for Treasurers

 In Blog, Updates

The California Fair Political Practices Commission passed a rule prohibiting anyone under the age of 18 to be hired for a position that requires them to sign campaign finance documents under penalty of perjury.  The new rule applies to treasurers, assistant treasurers, responsible officers, and principal officers.  A city councilperson was found to have hired his 14-year-old cousin as his treasurer during a bid for a council seat in 2016, sparking the new rule.

This new rule is in addition to recently approved amended rules related to Statements of Organization and Recall Elections.
